William Ruser: The Jeweler Who Charmed Hollywood

  • $24.99

William Ruser was the quintessential “jeweler to the stars” during the golden age of Hollywood. Ruser’s celebrity clientele included Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Crawford, Ronald Reagan, Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Wagner, to name a few. He may not be a household name today, but to those who do know of him, he is mostly remembered for his whimsical figural jewelry with freshwater pearls. But his best work can go for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Very little has been written about his life and the fine quality work he produced for the rich and famous in an elegant shop on Rodeo Drive, now home to Van Cleef and Arpels. Through research and interviews with family and people who knew him professionally, details about his personal and professional life have been gathered in this book. It also includes more than 100 images, many never published before. A section of the book also provides insight into the husband and wife team, Cyril and Vera Wood (Cyvra), that actually designed the figural jewelry that made Ruser famous. Their bohemian lifestyle was vastly different from that of Bill and Peggy Ruser, and their story is just as compelling.
